Adult (noun): a human being after an age (such as 21) specified by law
– From Merriam-Webster Dictionary
Is it just me or does that above definition seem a bit vague? Let’s break it down:
- A Human Being – basically all of mankind
- After an Age Specified by Law – which is different depending on certain activities (i.e. drinking, smoking, renting a car, etc.)
My question still stands…
What Does ADULT Mean?
I don’t think there is ONE solid definition of what an adult is. I also think the definition changes as years go by and the world, culture, and norms shift from one perspective to another. Speaking from a Millennial’s point of view (born 1993), I feel like my generation has made a solid attempt to define the word by turning the term into a verb; an action word, made to emphasize our transition into adulthood.
Adulting (verb): to carry out one or more of the duties and responsibilities expected of fully developed individuals (paying off credit card debt, settling without blasting social media, etc.).
– Urban Dictionary
Are We There Yet?
The name of this blog is Adulthood: Still Figuring It Out, because currently I am a 26 year old Senior Accountant, with a BS in Accounting, working towards my Master’s in Business, employed at a billion dollar publicly traded company, and from the outside looking in; it may seem, like I have it all figured out – but that assumption couldn’t be further from the truth.
These past years; after college graduation, I have learned more about life, responsibility, and compassion during my daily life than I have ever learned before in a classroom. I have also witnessed and am currently experiencing this transition into adulthood; and it is rough.
What’s The Plan Stan?

I hope you will continue this journey with me by subscribing to this blog, commenting your thoughts and topic suggestions, or following me on my social media platforms, as we embark on this transition to adulthood.
